Changing of the guard in ice hockey: ESV Kaufbeuren is starting again!
The ice hockey world is in the starting blocks! The upcoming season in the DEL2 promises some exciting duels, because the league starts on September 19, 2025. All 14 clubs that are qualified for sport have received their license, like the Kaufbeuren Kreisbote reported. The fans can look forward to new faces: Düsseldorfer EG, recently relegated from the DEL, and the Bietigheim Steelers, who became champions in the Oberliga, are giving the league a breath of fresh air.
The season is particularly special for ESV Kaufbeuren, who will play against Weiden away on the first match day. The first home game of the new season will take place on September 21st against the Eispiren Crimmitschau. Newly hired assistant coach Andrew Donaldson, previously at the University of Windsor, will provide fresh input alongside head coach Todd Warriner. Patrick Reimer, the sporting director of the ESVK, sees great potential in returnee Yannik Burghart, who spent last season at EHC Freiburg.
Continuation of the successful cooperation
One of the most important developments surrounding ESV Kaufbeuren is the continuation of the cooperation with EV Füssen. This partnership has proven to be extremely valuable for the development of young talent, which is also emphasized by Patrick Reimer and Jörg Noack, the executive board of EV Füssen. They agree that excellent communication and trusting collaboration contribute significantly to the players' success. “We want to offer young athletes in both leagues valuable ice time and thus promote their development,” says Reimer optimistically about their shared future. Jörg Noack describes the cooperation as one of the best in German ice hockey and emphasizes the important role of continuity.
The license review process, which ran until the end of June, was another key to ensuring the league's economic stability. With this process completed, all 14 clubs are now on solid ground for participation in the coming season. League boss René Rudorisch has emphasized the importance of these tests in order to ensure fair competition conditions. The anticipation for the new season can be felt throughout the league, and fans can already look forward to exciting ice hockey moments.
The look ahead
The cooperation between ESV Kaufbeuren and EV Füssen is of enormous importance, especially for young players. Numerous young talents have already benefited from this and have been able to develop further in their sport. This shows how important it is to promote Allgäu players through local clubs. A focus on the development of the region, coupled with passionate ice hockey, makes fans' hearts beat faster. So it will be interesting to see how the dynamics will affect the ice!
