Sickergrund Citizens Park in Kitzingen: New leisure paradise being planned!

Something is happening in Kitzingen in terms of local recreation: The plans for the new Sickergrund community park are becoming more concrete and promise to become a real attraction for all age groups. The community park will cover an area of 13 hectares and is estimated to cost around 5 million euros. The city's goal is clear: to improve the settlement and the city and to offer residents and visitors an attractive recreational opportunity. The Main Post reports that the competition to design the park has already been completed and the Dresden specialist office “Querfeldeins” emerged as the winner.

A first look at how it will be used shows that the area will not only be ideal for recreation, but also for sports. The recreation area starts at the forecourt of the Sickergrundhalle and will combine sports and recreation areas. The response to the competition was great, as more than 11 landscape architects and planning offices from all over Germany submitted their designs.

Park design and planned features

A prominent feature of the park will be the planned circular path, approximately 1.5 km long and 2.5 m wide, which will welcome pedestrians as well as cyclists, joggers and wheelchair users. The uniform design also integrates play equipment for children as well as sports facilities such as a basketball court and a volleyball court. In the northern area of the artificial turf pitch, recreational areas with comfortable seating and leisure activities are planned.

The planned water playground for the younger ones is particularly exciting and could be a real highlight. The official planning will be concretized in 2024, and the implementation and realization of the entire project will take place gradually until the end of 2028. A traffic training area will be moved towards the sports grounds and attention will also be paid to attractive green spaces there. Information on the legal aspects are also important in this context in order to support the entire project.

Anyone interested in the specific plans can view them in the town hall from October 31st to November 5th. This heralds an exciting time for Kitzingen. The Sickergrund community park will not only increase the quality of life of the residents, but will also become a place for meeting and sporting activities for all age groups.
