Weiglein plants from Geesdorf: pioneers in environmental protection honored!
The family business Plants Weiglein from Geesdorf recently received the Bavarian Environmental Pact certificate at a celebratory ceremony. This award recognizes the company's commitment to protecting the environment and resources as well as strengthening regional structures. The certificate was presented by Frank Albert, the economic development officer for the Kitzingen district, and Klaus Köhler, the mayor of Wiesentheid, on behalf of the Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber. Managing director Christian Weiglein proudly accepted the honor MainPost reports.
Plants Weiglein not only relies on high-quality plants, but also on a variety of environmental measures. This includes the maximum use of light and solar heat in the greenhouses, which allows the temperature to be optimally regulated. The company is also investing in a photovoltaic system with an output of 20.9 kilowatts, which is used for self-sufficiency with electricity. In order to be even more environmentally friendly, the company also uses its own electric car.
Sustainability in water management
Another big focus is on water management. Plants Weiglein has built an impressive 1,850 m³ water storage pond for sustainable irrigation. In addition, 400 m³ of rainwater from an existing pond and two cisterns with a capacity of 500 m³ are used to collect rainwater from roof areas. These measures are part of a comprehensive approach to resource conservation and are in line with the objectives of the Bavarian Environmental Pact, which supports companies in actively implementing ecological sustainability.
But the company is also concerned with the care and propagation of old fruit varieties. In this way, Plant Weiglein contributes to the preservation of genetic diversity and the protection of the Franconian cultural landscape. Organic fertilizers have been used for two years to promote soil fertility and strengthen the microorganisms in the soil. These practical measures are part of the commitment to sustainable business and show that responsible agriculture can go hand in hand with environmental protection.
The responsibility of agriculture
The connection to agriculture is no coincidence, as the industry is currently in the spotlight when it comes to climate change and environmental protection. How Agriculture.de notes, more sustainable agriculture is crucial to meeting the challenges of climate change. Measures such as moderate meat avoidance and reducing food waste are just a few aspects that are being discussed. The aim is to increase productivity through innovations and sustainable practices without endangering biodiversity and the environment.
With the award as part of the Bavarian Environmental Pact, it becomes clear that companies like Plants Weiglein not only think economically, but also take responsibility for their environment. They show that it is also possible in agriculture, with a good knack for innovation, to protect the environment and resources in the same breath. At a time when climate change is becoming increasingly salient, it is important that such positive examples are brought to the fore.
