The Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing has just really gotten going, and the police are already drawing positive conclusions after the opening weekend. However, there were some incidents that brought public safety into focus. The officers recorded several offenses, including theft, physical altercations and a worrying fall on the ride.
An incident occurred on Tuesday in which a 65-year-old woman fell from a ride along with her four-year-old granddaughter. Fortunately, both escaped with minor injuries. Authorities have said they will inspect the ride responsible for the incident for structural defects to ensure something like this doesn't happen again the PNP reported.
Security situation in view
But the folk festival is not without nuances. Early on Sunday morning, between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m., a locked silver “Fixie Inc” racing bike was stolen. Here too, the police are asking for information from the public on 09421/8680.
Another incident occurred on Thursday around 3 a.m. when a 21-year-old, who was perceived to be drunk, went to an e-scooter. And things didn't get any better: A 25-year-old broke into a backpack and handbag outside the festival grounds and later tried to escape, but was caught by the owners. While he escaped with the handbag, he left the backpack behind. The police were able to arrest him and the investigation into the theft of a handbag is ongoing.
Conflicts and betrayal
The alcohol culture at the festival also led to another difficult situation: a 27-year-old refused to pay for drinks and food he had ordered after the kitchen closed. He is now facing charges of fraud. Last but not least, there was a physical altercation at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday between a 22-year-old and a 24-year-old, who together took a wine bottle from a 43-year-old. In the midst of this chaos, the 43-year-old's girlfriend was pulled by her hair and pushed to the ground. Here too, investigations into bodily harm are ongoing, as the news from Straubing continues to report.
In the midst of all these adventurous events, the Gäubodenvolksfest remains a popular attraction. However, security authorities remain vigilant to ensure the safety of all guests and prevent such incidents in the future. It remains to be seen how the festival will go over the next few days.
