FUTURE Landshut nominates Norbert Hoffmann as mayor candidate!

An exciting race for the mayor's office is looming in the city of Landshut. The local voters' association ZUKUNFT Landshut (ZL) has nominated Norbert Hoffmann as its candidate for the local elections on March 6, 2026. The 42-year-old from Landshut, who has been active in local politics on the city council since 2010, was described by ZL chairman Christian Pöhner as an excellent offer for the city's citizens. Hoffmann himself was pleased with the trust placed in him and is planning a business-friendly, cosmopolitan approach in the town hall.

However, the ZL board's decision still needs to be confirmed in a constellation meeting, the date of which will be announced soon. With Hoffmann's goal of leveraging the city's "numerous dormant potentials", a breath of fresh air could blow into Landshut politics. Before his political engagement, he studied export-oriented management in Krems an der Donau and spent a stay abroad in Egypt.

Competition on the electoral stage

But Hoffmann is not the only candidate for the upcoming mayoral election. Other well-known applicants have already been announced. Dr. Thomas Haslinger from the CSU, who was nominated in Bernlochner on April 10, 2025, emphasizes the responsibility towards the citizens and the city administration. His focus is on strong companies, educational institutions and the expansion of infrastructure. He also wants to promote the merger of the Landshut clinics and strengthen the city as a sports and cultural metropolis.

Christoph Rabl from the Greens focuses on climate-friendly urban development and citizen participation under the slogan “Together, sustainable, successful”. He was nominated on April 29, 2025 and plans to promote schools as district centers and create more green spaces.

Heiko Helmbrecht from the ÖDP, who received his nomination on May 26, 2025 in the White Tower Cafe, focuses on responsible action and the renovation of dilapidated buildings. Olaf Minet from the GLG, who was nominated on May 28, 2025, offers to integrate the Isar into the city as a river that can be experienced and would like to see safe bicycle streets.

Who will bring home the OB Cup?

Voter turnout in the last local elections was 48.0% and up to ten candidates are expected to vie for the mayoralty. Patricia Steinberger (SPD) will also be nominated in July and Jürgen Wachter (FDP) is also planning to run. A nomination process is also scheduled for Günter Straßberger (AfD), and the Left/mut will nominate its own candidate. If a majority of 50% is not achieved in the first round of voting on March 6, 2026, a runoff election is planned for March 22, 2026.

The development of the political landscape in Landshut remains exciting, and it remains to be seen which candidate will ultimately be elected mayor. Citizens have the opportunity to raise their voices for the future of their city and set the course for the coming years. As the candidates work out their strategies, public interest in the upcoming election is already palpable.
