Exciting reading competition: Karlstadt's best readers compete!

The exciting reading competition for the sixth grade took place today in the music hall of the Karlstadt middle school. The event began with a warm welcome from the school principal Kerstin Schwarz and the class leader Annika Neidert. There was also a jury consisting of Mr. Jungschaffer, a former teacher, Mr. Schreck, the head of the city library, and two student representatives. This evaluation committee had the task of testing and evaluating the reading skills of the participating students. Mainpost reports that all students presented a self-selected excerpt from one of their favorite young adult books.

The selection was colorful and ranged from adventurous stories to fantastic stories and humorous novels. In the second part of the competition, the participants were allowed to read aloud a so-called unknown text, which brought additional challenges. The finalists showed what they were capable of: clear presentations, appropriate emphases and remarkable reading confidence. Mainpost highlights that the jury was very proud of the high level of the presentations.

The winners and their achievements

At the end of the competition there was great excitement when the winners were announced. First place went to Henry, who impressed the jury with his expressive voice and his confident handling of the texts. Yevhen and Bastian came in second and also showed excellent performances. All finalists were presented with awards and small prizes, which made faces smile. The competition ended with great applause and the feeling that reading and reading aloud is very popular in school.

The reading competition is not just a local challenge, but is one of the largest student competitions in Germany. Every year, around 600,000 students take part in this nationwide competition, which is under the patronage of the Federal President. Registrations for the next competition are already underway and schools have until December 15, 2025 to register their school winners for the 2025/26 round.
