Würzburg celebrates new bakers: crafts with a future and opportunities!

Today, September 25, 2025, a special celebration took place in Würzburg that was all about the bakery trade. The Mainfranken bakers' guild honored eight bakers, three specialist salespeople and five specialist bakers in a ceremonial acquittal. Chief Master Marcel Scherg, who opened the event, welcomed around 80 guests and remembered his own first acquittal as a youth. “If you get up early, you go home earlier” is not just a saying, it reflects the reality of many bakers who start their work at dusk.

Particularly pleasing was the presence of the keynote speaker, District Administrator Armin Grein, who thrilled the audience with a funny variation of a Brecht quote. In his speech, he highlighted the innovative strength and special achievements of the young craftsmen who successfully completed their training despite challenging conditions. Vice world champion bakers, Johanna Lenhardt and Lea Wagner, reported on the diverse career opportunities in the bakery trade.

The new faces in the bakery trade

The graduates can be proud of their achievements: The new bakers are Amelia Bengerno, Danylo Bieliavyi, Moses Deckwer, Lion Einwag, Susi Götz, Luca Lehmeier, Rebecca Mantel and Carol Yu Xin Tang. The specialist bakers go by the names Gabriel Kind, Fabio Löffler, Luca Polloczek, Michael Weber and Sebastian Weiße. There are also fresh faces among the specialist salespeople: Laura Lederer, Melanie Schlüter and Amelie Wagner have passed their exams. The best graduates in the respective categories were particularly mentioned:

Mayor Sandra Vorlová emphasized the important role that skilled craftsmen play for society. Deputy District Administrator Pamela Nembach thanked the trainers for their tireless commitment and encouraged the graduates to actively promote their profession. “Your successes are the reward for your hard work,” she remarked, encouraging the young bakers to pass on their managerial experience in the industry.

Career opportunities and challenges

The freedom that the bakery trade offers is also reflected in the various training and further education opportunities. How handwerk-direkt.de explains, the duration of training in this profession is three years. If you already have a technical college entrance qualification or have completed vocational training, the training can be shortened to two years. The salary during training increases from 930 euros in the first year of training to 1,115 euros in the third year.

The activities in the bakery are extremely diverse: from producing bread, rolls and pastries to advising customers and adhering to hygiene standards. The bakery trade opens many doors - be it in the form of self-employment, a job in the catering industry or even the opportunity to work abroad as a specialist in German bread.

As we can see, bakers and bakery salespeople play a central role in our society and offer a variety of development opportunities. It remains to be hoped that the graduates will make the most of their new opportunities and breathe new life into the baking trade.
