FC Memmingen goes down in the cup: 1:5 defeat against Pipinsried!
FC Memmingen experienced a disappointing cup game on August 12, 2025, when they lost 5-1 to FC Pipinsried in the Bavarian State Cup. Coach Matthias Günes' men had to do without some important players: Maximilian Dolinski, Philipp Kirsamer and Luis Vetter were not available. Despite the personnel setbacks, the coach had a large part of his squad available to stand up to the strong home opponents.
The situation was also not ideal for Pipinsried; They had to do without Nico Karger and Tobias Schröck, and regular goalkeeper Maximilian Engl was injured on the bench. However, these personnel shortages did not seem to slow down the hosts' enthusiasm for the game.
The course of the game
Pipinsried had the first opportunity in the 4th minute, but Felix Popp missed the ball. However, it was the guests from Memmingen who surprisingly scored the opening goal in the 6th minute. Nico Nollenberger converted a corner from Fabian Lutz to make it 0-1. But the game quickly took a turn.
Fabian Benko equalized for Pipinsried in the 19th minute, before Mario Götzendörfer gave the hosts the lead in the 30th minute. From that moment on, Memmingen had difficulty setting an offensive tone and no longer really got into the game.
After half-time, the Memmingen coach tried to bring a breath of fresh air into the game with three new players – David Remiger, David Mihajlovic and Palle Maier. But it was Pipinsried who increased the score to 3-1 in the 52nd minute after Nenad Petkovic got his name on the scoresheet. The home team quickly followed suit: Kubilay Celik made it 4-1 in the 71st minute, followed by Benedikt Wiegert, who made the final score 5-1 in the 86th minute.
Spectators and referees
With only 246 spectators in the stands, the mood was subdued despite the clear result. The referee Hiefner from Finning had a little to do, but was able to maintain a fair game in the end.
FC Memmingen's cup history doesn't seem to be successful again this year. The statistics in Transfermarkt show that the club has often failed in the national cup in the past. It remains to be seen whether FC Memmingen will fare better in the future.
