Triathlon sensation in Laupheim: double victory for TV Dettingen!
On Sunday, August 17th, the Second Risstal Triathlon in Laupheim celebrated a sporting comeback with bright weather and happy participants. In contrast to the premiere last year, which was characterized by constant rain, the sun shone on the Mobi Park site, where almost 450 athletes took part in the competition. The conditions were perfect to concentrate on the three disciplines – 500 meters swimming, 20 kilometers cycling and 5 kilometers running.
The impressive result of the day was achieved by Sebastian Kuhn from TV Dettingen/Iller, who took first place with a total time of 57 minutes. His performance was remarkable, especially in cycling, where he set the fastest time on the course at 31:58 minutes. He finished the swim in 9:11 minutes (32nd place) and ran the 5 kilometers in 15:51 minutes, which was also the best time of the event.
An exciting duel
On the heels of the winner was Simon Weber, also from TV Dettingen/Iller. He secured second place with a total time of 57:09 minutes. He was particularly fast in the water, where he finished fifth in 7:37 minutes. Weber also had to prove himself in the running with 16:26 minutes, but the lead of just 9 seconds over Patrick Betz-Mors from TG Biberach shows how close the fight for the medals was. Betz-Mors finished with a time of 57:49 minutes and secured third position.

Growing popularity of triathlon
The Risstal Triathlon is part of a growing sports movement in Germany that is attracting more and more fans. Triathlon is a comparatively young sport that gained a foothold in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1980s. There are now around 600 events every year, with over 270,000 participants taking part. The largest event, the ITU World Triathlon Series in Hamburg, attracts up to 10,000 athletes and enjoys a large audience response of over 250,000.
The results in Laupheim reflect the upward trend, even if the event with around 450 participants was smaller than the Cologne Triathlon, where up to 4,000 athletes compete. In any case, it shows that the enthusiasm for triathlon is unbroken and the athletes have impressively shown what they can achieve. Triathlon is very popular not only as a competition, but also as a health and leisure sport for people of all ages.
