Construction awards for sustainable projects: Prizes awarded in the Miltenberg district!
On September 29, 2025, the ceremonial presentation of the 9th Sparkasse Prize for successful construction measures took place in the Panorama Hall of the Sparkasse Miltenberg. This award, which was presented by the non-profit foundation of Sparkasse Aschaffenburg-Miltenberg, recognizes innovative approaches in the field of construction and renovation. The deputy chairman of the board, Philipp Ehni, emphasized the high relevance of architecture and sustainable construction in today's world.
A look at the figures shows that around 750 million euros in new loans were made available to medium-sized businesses and builders last year. This makes the continuous strengthening of the regional construction industry visible. Deputy District Administrator Bernd Schötterl also emphasized the social and cultural significance of the construction award, which not only honored excellent projects but also served as a source of inspiration for future projects.
Diverse award winners
The prizes awarded reflect an exciting mix of tradition and modernity. Julia Heinzel, the new area representative for monument preservation, presented impressive projects that were considered for the award:
A total of 11,000 euros in prize money was distributed, with recognition also being given to other outstanding projects such as the “Fränkisches Haus mit Mainblick” and the “Begegnungshaus” in Hausen. The careful selection and evaluation of the projects shows how important it is to preserve historical monuments and promote sustainable construction methods.
Sustainability in construction
The discussion about sustainable construction methods and the importance of green buildings is gaining momentum not least because of such events. Green buildings are not only environmentally friendly and resource-efficient structures, they also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Forecasts assume that the number of green buildings worldwide will double by 2030. Investments in this area are particularly strong in Europe, which shows that sustainable building is very popular (Statista).
The goal is clear: environmentally friendly and energy-efficient buildings should be created that operate sustainably from planning to demolition. The use of natural heat sources and innovative construction methods such as passive houses or wooden construction play a central role. The latter, which emit significantly less CO2 compared to conventional materials, have become increasingly important in recent years.
Overall, the Sparkasse Prize shows how important it is to combine tradition and innovation in the construction sector. Cities and communities are encouraged to make their places attractive while minimizing their ecological footprint. The next opportunity for interested builders to take part in the competition is until the submission deadline of March 31, 2025, after which completed construction measures that were implemented up to a maximum of three years previously can be submitted (Miltenberg).
