Federal competition Acting Democratically”: Take part now and win!

On October 16, 2025, the Miltenberg district office gave the starting signal for the nationwide “Act Democratically” competition. This competition is dedicated to promoting democratic culture in Germany and honors creative democracy projects in school and extracurricular areas. The competition is not only recommended by the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, but is also supported by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family, Seniors, Women and Youth.

Young people aged from kindergarten to 25 are eligible to take part. Projects can be carried out either individually, in groups or as part of a school class. This year we are looking for ideas and initiatives that strengthen democratic coexistence and thus contribute to the development of a society based on solidarity. There are various subject areas to choose from, including politics, history, the environment, inclusion and much more. Participants are invited to express their creativity in a variety of formats: from exhibitions, films, journalistic articles to podcasts, social media or even plays.

Prizes and recognition for the winners

The best projects will be awarded exciting prizes. The 50 main winners can look forward to a trip to the Junify Democracy Festival in Berlin - an unforgettable experience that will further promote enthusiasm for democracy. There are also special prizes in the areas of film, journalism and art, as well as start-up funding for exciting project ideas. The winning projects not only receive a wall plaque and a certificate, but are also featured on social media, providing valuable visibility for participants.

The commitment is through the Support Association for Democratic Action e. v. which has been active since 1990 and aims not only to appreciate and make democracy projects visible, but also to promote their networking and empowerment. This is done in close cooperation with the state ministries of education.

Additional funding opportunities for democracy projects

For all those who would like to engage more intensively with political issues, the Federal Agency for Civic Education a wide range of funding opportunities. The federal government's children and youth plan, Erasmus+ Youth and many foundations support a wide range of projects in the area of ​​political education. These funds are intended for local initiatives and international exchanges of young people, and many of them can bring in up to 2,500 euros in funding.

Application for the competition runs from September 15th to December 15th each year and is done online. Interested parties are encouraged to register and submit their projects on the website. If you have any questions or are unclear, those responsible will be happy to help.
