Onset of winter in Bavaria: Up to 40 cm of snow expected in the mountains!

The weather conditions in Bavaria today are anything but pleasant. The early onset of winter is making itself felt, and the forecasts from the German Weather Service (DWD) show that the next few days won't be much better. The Allgäu region is particularly affected, where up to 40 cm of fresh snow is expected at higher altitudes. The situation is made even more difficult by sometimes strong gusts of wind with speeds of up to 80 km/h. Objects should be stowed safely to avoid damage from flying parts, as Merkur recommends.

Yesterday evening, the DWD warnings about squalls initially expired in Munich and other regions of Bavaria. However, wind gusts of up to 55 km/h can still be expected today, and in exposed areas even up to 70 km/h. The weather is classified as wet and cloudy, with a slight improvement in the weather on Tuesday evening in the Alps and the foothills of the Alps.

Onset of winter and weather forecasts

The current temperature forecasts show what the weather situation will be like in the coming days. Highs of 8 to 14 degrees are forecast on Tuesday. In addition, a north-south division of the weather situation is to be expected: While there are many clouds and occasional rain in the north, a little space is given to the sun in the south. This clearly shows that the upcoming weather remains diverse.

The precipitation is concentrated primarily in the Oberallgäu and the Bavarian Forest. Here the temperatures in the Fichtelgebirge are set at up to 10 degrees and in the foothills of the Alps at 17 degrees. On Thursday it could be cloudy and rainy north of the Danube, while the sun will increasingly shine through in the south.

Weather warnings at a glance

Current weather warnings are not only important for citizens, but also for the construction industry, agriculture and event organizers. Unwetterzentrale provides an overview map of storm and hurricane warnings in Germany. These warnings are divided into advance warnings, where storm events are expected, and acute warnings, which indicate the intensity of the wind gusts.

  • Gelbe Vorwarnungen: Möglichkeit eines Sturmereignisses
  • Akutwarnungen: Orange, Rot und Violett je nach Windintensität

The most precise information about the weather situation and current severe weather warnings can be obtained via the NDR platform, where different weather elements - from gusts of wind to snowfall to heat - are presented in different warning levels. A county may be subject to multiple warnings at the same time, highlighting the importance of continued weather monitoring.

The coming days will require Bayern to not only be resilient to the weather, but also to keep a close eye on developments. If you keep an eye on the weather forecasts, you can better prepare for the uncomfortable autumn weather.
