Udo Lindenberg: Wire portrait exceeds auction expectations at Cash for Rares!

There was an impressive presentation at “Bares für Rares” on October 23rd: a wire sculpture by the cult musician Udo Lindenberg caused a stir. The work of art entitled “Udo's Head with a Perspective” was designed by the Hamburg artist Susanne Jörgen and consists of around 220 meters of wire. 21-year-old marketing student Mahdi Benjdiya brought the sculpture with him and was pleased with the surprisingly high sales price.

Originally, Mahdi's mother couldn't miss the sculpture for 4,000 euros. But even after expert assessments that put the value of Detlev Kümmel's work at 2,500 to 2,800 euros, dealers showed strong interest. During the bidding round, dealer Walter Lehnertz finally offered 4,100 euros and secured the piece, which was also impressive due to its special design.

Enthusiasm and emotions

The sculpture brings a creative element: the hair is made from clay tape, which gives the work of art an extraordinary touch. Kümmel explained that the special magic of the sculpture is particularly effective when it plays with light; as a shadow image, it unfolds its full charm. Mahdi, who is not only a student but also a collector, was pleased with the price and the reactions of the dealers. “This is more than I expected,” he said happily on the show.

Other highlights of this episode included a watercolor by the artist Friedrich Frank, which sold for 300 euros, and a massive traditional costume necklace that sold for 3,100 euros. Likewise, a platinum wristwatch from the Oriosa brand, which was sold for 900 euros. All of these collectibles caught the attention of dealers, and the television audience marveled at the stories behind the pieces.

A look behind the scenes

Udo Lindenberg is not only a music icon, but also known for his involvement in art projects. Mahdi can be proud to have presented a piece of this connection through the wire sculpture. The show, which aired on October 23rd, is further proof of how vibrant art and personal stories come together on Cash for Rares.

The success of the work of art is an example of the fact that unusual souvenirs are very popular with “Cash for Rares”. From the fascination for something special to real emotions, there is always something for everyone here. Tune in and let yourself be carried away by the stories and works of art!
