Bayern is trembling to win the DFB Cup against Wiesbaden!
Tonight, August 31, 2025, an exciting DFB Cup game between FC Bayern Munich and third division team SV Wehen Wiesbaden was played in the Brita Arena. Despite Bayern's early 1-0 lead thanks to a penalty goal from Harry Kane, it ultimately became a nervous thriller for the record champions.
Things initially looked good for Bayern in the first half. In the 12th minute, Kane scored a penalty that was awarded after a foul on Boey. We went into half-time with a score of 1-0, but many Bayern fans felt that the result was not certain enough. And they were right, because the second half brought an unexpected turn.
A drama in the second half
Bayern increased their lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute through Michael Olise, but Wiesbaden's response didn't take long to arrive. Fatih Kaya was in impressive form and reduced the score to 2-1 in the 68th minute before striking again just two minutes later to level the game at 2-2. This meant the game was completely open again and the tension rose immeasurably.
Harry Kane then had the chance to put his team back in the lead, but he missed another penalty in the 76th minute - a rare mistake for the striker, who had previously scored 31 penalties in a row. But in the 90th +3 minute he was to celebrate his comeback: with a powerful header from a cross from Stanisic, Kane made it 3-2 and secured Bayern's place in the second round.
Despite their dominance, Bayern are shaking
Although Bayern dominated the game for long periods and missed a few chances thanks to Jonas Urbig, who replaced the suspended Manuel Neuer, and a very good Florian Stritzel in the Wiesbaden goal, they had to fear for their victory until the last minute. Wiesbaden, who had a mixed season at the start of the 3rd league (1 win, 1 draw, 1 defeat), showed character and made the Munich team sweat.
"We made ourselves sweat after the 2-0 lead. You have to make better use of the chances," commented Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, who changed to six positions compared to the last Bundesliga game. Important players like 17-year-old Lennart Karl were on the pitch right from the start and provided a breath of fresh air in the squad.
