Extra parking spaces for All Saints Day: This makes it more relaxed in Munich!
Autumn is coming to an end and preparations for All Saints Day next Friday are already in full swing. From October 31st to November 2nd there will be additional parking options at Munich cemeteries so that visitors can easily get to the memorial sites. The website muenchenunterwegs.de reports that the parking spaces will be available from Thursday, October 31st and that the municipal parking offers will be open daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. until Saturday, November 2nd.
In recent years it has been repeatedly noticed that the stalls in front of the cemetery entrances often lead to bottlenecks in the area of footpaths and cycle paths. The city's mobility department therefore appeals to all cyclists and cemetery visitors to show consideration for one another. At the Ostfriedhof in particular on St.-Martin-Straße, a shared walking and cycling path was designated to make access easier for visitors.
Additional parking spaces and disabled spaces
The city of Munich has made a special effort this year to meet the requirements of All Saints Day. Additional parking options are available at the Ostfriedhof, particularly in the V-Markt parking lot on Balanstrasse, which is accessible on November 1st from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are also numerous disabled parking spaces:
- St.-Bonifatius-Straße Nordseite: 8 Parkplätze.
- St.-Martins-Platz, Ostseite: 4 Parkplätze.
- St.-Martin-Straße Nordseite, westlich Zugang Krematorium: 3 Parkplätze.
- St.-Martin-Straße Nordseite, ab Friedhofszugang: 3 Parkplätze.
At the Perlacher Forst cemetery there are also parking spaces on Schwanseestrasse, including additional disabled parking spaces on Stadelheimer Strasse. The parking spaces at the Waldfriedhof are well distributed on various sections of the street, and there are also taxi stands at Lorettoplatz. Further information about the available parking spaces can be found in detail on the Wochenanzeiger website.
Consideration is required
Given the high volume of visitors, the police could introduce cycle lane barriers to protect both cyclists and pedestrians. The cycle paths to the Nordfriedhof and especially on the east side of Ungererstrasse are also in focus, should the circumstances require it. This shows once again how important a clear parking space management strategy is in order to organize motorized traffic sensibly and not to unnecessarily restrict urban mobility.
As the German Institute for Urban Studies highlights, parking space management is viewed as a crucial tool for creating more space for sustainable mobility solutions. In addition to improving traffic flow, these measures are also intended to increase safety and comfort for all road users. It is therefore advisable to inform yourself in good time and plan your visit well.
So be prepared and enjoy the contemplative days around All Saints Day with the certainty of being able to park easily!
