Every step counts: City Country on Foot” competition starts in Munich!
The “City Country on Foot” campaign starts with fresh enthusiasm in Munich on November 1, 2025. The event, which runs until November 21st, encourages all Munich residents to collect steps together - be it hiking, walking, jogging or simply taking a leisurely stroll. The aim of this initiative is not only to promote the health of participants, but also to support environmental protection and a stronger sense of community. Participation in this competition is completely free and is open to individuals and groups.
If you want to count your steps, you can simply go to the website stadtlandzufuss.de register. The kilometers you have collected can be easily entered there. To make the whole thing even more motivating, individuals can join the “Open Team – City of Munich” without there being any fixed requirements for team size.
A successful premiere
The event is being held for the third time this year and has proven extremely popular. A look at the past campaign in 2024 shows that almost 5,000 participants from 22 cities collected around 450,000 kilometers. This puts the campaign in line with traditional competitions and shows that exercise is particularly important in the dark, cooler season to do something good for the immune system and to brighten the mood.
The “City Country on Foot” campaign was first announced across Germany in 2022 and has enjoyed growing popularity ever since. The enjoyment of exercise plays a central role, because those who exercise regularly in the fresh air not only promote their fitness, but also their general well-being. This is especially important now that the days are getting shorter.
The sound world of the octave
But not only walking, the sounds of our surroundings also have their pitfalls. Many of us have probably heard the term “octave” to describe a doubling of frequency – especially in music and audio electronics. An octave is not only a unit of measurement for musical frequencies, but also crucial for the sound quality of amplifiers or filters. When we think of music, there is a clear reference to the Western music scale, where doubling the frequency leads to the next octave.
An example makes this clear: A frequency of 40 Hz doubles to 80 Hz in the next octave. Typically, the frequency ratio is expressed in octaves as a base-2 logarithm. This is how frequencies are created with clear management of the frequency bands in music production. What this means is that the power gain changes by ±6 decibels when the frequency jumps in a certain octave.
If you would like to delve deeper into the topic, you can find helpful information at, among other things Wikipedia. Not only does the musical connection become clear here, technical aspects such as the frequency response of audio systems are also discussed in detail.
With this in mind, it means: Go out, move and enjoy the sounds of your surroundings - or simply withdraw and deal with the fascinating topic of the octave. In both cases there is a lot to discover!
