50 years of State Trombone Day in Ulm: A celebration of music and community!
This coming weekend, the city of Ulm will be transformed into a true showcase for brass music. On June 28th and 29th, 2025, the Evangelical Youth Organization and the CVJM Ulm will celebrate the 50th State Trumpet Day, which will be held under the motto “All the best!” stands. Around 6,000 wind players from all over Germany are expected to experience a musical festival together with numerous visitors. This is an anniversary that has a special significance in the history of trombone playing in Germany, because the State Trombone Days have been held in Württemberg since 1901 and in Ulm since 1946 ulm-news.de reports.
There will be a colorful program that includes musical performances, hands-on activities, church services and concerts. A highlight is the night concert with the renowned brass ensemble German Brass, which will take place on Saturday in the Pauluskirche. The young people can also look forward to a worship and disco night at Club Cocomo. Sunday begins at 10 a.m. with large brass services at various locations, including the Südliche Münsterplatz and the Pauluskirche. In addition, special offers such as “Church Kunterbunt” and open-air concerts are provided for the entire family, as the Evangelisches Jugendwerk highlights.
A place for meeting and exchange
Over the years, the State Trumpet Day has developed into the largest event within the Protestant regional church in Württemberg. It not only attracts participants from the Württemberg regional church, but also from other regions. This gathering is not only a place for musical performances, but also an opportunity for people to meet and exchange ideas.
The historical legacy of trombone choirs goes back a long way. The first post-war Trombone Day in Ulm was influential in the decision to keep this important event there. Trombone choirs emerged in the context of pietistic renewal movements and were often used as mobile sound bodies in outdoor church services, which consolidated their popularity. Despite the initial skepticism of classical church musicians, trombone choirs have established themselves as a permanent fixture in the Protestant church, as the Evangelisches Gemeindeblatt explains.
A celebration for everyone
At the end of the weekend, the closing ceremony will take place on Sunday at 4:15 p.m. on the square in front of Ulm Minster. Among others, Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, Mayor Martin Ansbacher and Regional Bishop Ernst-Wilhelm Gohl will be present here. There is great anticipation for the event and tickets are available now. For just 18 euros you can become part of this musical festival that will certainly make many hearts beat faster.
The State Trombone Day is more than just an event; it is a celebration of faith, music and community. If you have the opportunity, you shouldn't miss this event!
