The Left nominates Kati Ernst: Fight for affordable housing in Neu-Ulm!
A fresh wind is blowing through the political landscape of Neu-Ulm. On November 4, 2025, the Left Neu-Ulm nominated its candidate for the office of mayor: Kati Ernst. She presented herself to the public with clear concerns and emphasized that the well-being of people with financial and social challenges is her top priority. Your view of the city treasury is unadorned - a whopping 20 million euros are missing, and that of course has an impact on local community responsibilities. Her involvement as an engineer in fuel cell development since 2006 shows that she can not only talk, but also get involved.
But things aren't just going on in the mayoral election campaign. The district association also put together the complete city council list for the upcoming local elections in 2026. The list is headed by Kati Ernst herself and Jelena Gotić, who particularly wants to campaign for accessibility and inclusion. There are familiar faces in the other places. The high-profile candidates also include Karl-Martin Wöhner, who was already able to gain experience as a joint mayoral candidate for the Citizens' List and the Left in 2020, although with only 2.3 percent of the vote. He has now established himself as a lone fighter for the citizens' list in the city council.
The city council list in focus
Other committed members follow in places four to ten on the city council list: Sascha Lima, Verena-Julia Basler, Dietmar Österle, Celina Klostermeier, Alexander Pfnür, Jessica Hase and Özgür Yüksel. This team's main goal is to keep the focus on affordable housing and to vehemently defend itself against the shift to the right in society.
“Housing as a fundamental right” is the motto that will run like a common thread through the election campaign. The left demands that this essential quality of life must be available to all people, regardless of their financial situation. This is also reflected in their positions on promoting social housing and an active municipal housing policy, which is particularly important for people with low incomes. In Augsburg, rents are constantly rising, and many citizens are desperately looking for solutions to their housing situation.
Education and feminism as central themes
But it's not just about living space. The education system is also up for discussion. The Left advocates for free, healthy school meals for everyone and calls for an appropriate learning environment and more support for teachers. It is particularly important to them that education does not depend on income, but rather creates opportunities for everyone.
On a personal level, Kati Ernst advocates for gender equality. Growing up with the belief that she could achieve anything as a girl, she sees it as her job to name grievances and actively fight for safety and respect. Your call to citizens: Let us create a world without gender discrimination together.
