The Phantom of Grandma delights Neuburg: theater premiere in the Kolpinghaus!
On Saturday evening, October 27th, 2025, the time had come: the Neuburger Woazenbuam theater ensemble celebrated the eagerly awaited premiere of their new play “The Phantom of Grandma” in front of a full house in the Kolpinghaus. Club boss Horst Bollinger ensured a cheerful start right at the beginning when he came on stage and made the audience laugh with a funny comment. Andrea Schatzmann then took over the humorous part and led the audience through the evening.
Over the last few decades, the ensemble has developed into a permanent fixture in Neuburg's event calendar. It has been putting on plays regularly since 1980 and is presenting five performances this season. The performances usually take place in three acts, with the first major implementation of the play “Believe or Believe Not” by Erich Koch planned for November. Advance sales started on October 8, 2024; tickets can be purchased at the Spangler travel agency at Rosenstraße 9, Neuburg an der Donau.
The development of the Woazenbuam
The performances originally took place in the Kreilsaal, where up to nine performances were given. Over time, the move to the Neuburger Kolpinghaus became necessary in the 1988 season as demand grew steadily and there was no longer enough space in the Kreilsaal. The Sporthotel Dünstl has been the Woazenbuam's home stage since 2008. The development shows clearly: The Woazenbuam have retained a good hand, and almost all performances are now almost sold out.
In the Kolpinghaus there are not only the sometimes amusing performances, but also the opportunity to enjoy coffee and homemade cakes during an “old people’s afternoon”. This creates a cozy atmosphere and attracts numerous guests. This season there will also continue to be a performance on Sunday afternoons.
Preparation and rehearsals
Preparations for the upcoming performances begin in July with the first reading rehearsals, and rehearsals take place one to three times a week until the premiere. The hot phase typically starts in October, when stage construction and technical development begin. Before the dress rehearsal and the premiere, everything is brought to the point so that the final curtain follows in mid-November. After the end of the season, there will be a rest period before planning for the new season begins next July.
The Woazenbuam are passionate about offering their guests an entertaining time and having fun themselves. The audience can look forward to five performances, all of which are staged with great attention to detail and professional enthusiasm. If you don't want to miss the spectacle, you should get your tickets quickly, as demand is high and the good seats are in demand.
