There was a dramatic lightning strike in the region around the Cham district that set a field on fire. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene, but also had to be deployed in Furth im Wald and Pfakofen, where fallen trees and pushed-out manhole covers blocked the streets. In Upper Bavaria, the emergency services were busy with numerous operations and the damage is currently still unclear. The districts of Dachau, Fürstenfeldbruck and Erding were particularly affected.
Nightly thunderstorms are coming
The German Weather Service (DWD) has again issued severe weather warnings for parts of Bavaria. There are warnings of hurricane-force gusts of up to 110 km/h and rainfall could increase to up to 30 liters per square meter within an hour in certain regions. This could lead to further difficult weather conditions in the next few days. The DWD recommends avoiding spending time outdoors.
The intensity of the thunderstorms and the dangers caused by the storms are not just limited to Bavaria. The weather is also hitting with full force in parts of Saxony, such as the Trachenberge district of Dresden. Confirmed on Monday morning MDR.de that a lightning strike set the roof of an apartment building on fire. Fortunately, all residents were able to get to safety in time. The fire department arrived quickly, but needed to use a turntable ladder to extinguish the flames. Here too, the extent of the damage was still unclear at this point.
