Horticulture in Neumarkt: Ceremony celebrates 250 guests and committed volunteers!

On September 27, 2025, a remarkable meeting took place in Neumarkt: the first state association conference of the Bavarian State Association for Horticulture and Land Conservation. Around 250 guests from all over Bavaria came together to exchange ideas about current developments and future projects. The host was District Administrator Willibald Gailler, who is also chairman of the Neumarkt District Association for Horticulture and Land Conservation. The event took place in the district office hall and attracted numerous representatives of the horticultural sector, including members of the district board and district consultants.

A convivial evening in the Berghotel Sammüller formed the framework before the conference: the “Upper Palatinate Evening”. Not only was there good food and drink, but the commitment of the people of Neumarkt to gardening was also honored. Among the honors, the award to Werner Thumann stands out, who was honored with the Tschurtschenthaler Medal for his achievements in gardening, state beautification and nature and environmental protection. Thumann managed the district association's business from 2011 to 2023 and was particularly committed to child and youth work.

Volunteering and association work

The achievements of District Administrator Willibald Gailler are also recognized, as he was appointed honorary chairman of the Upper Palatinate District Association. During his time as chairman from 2015 to 2023, he was able to expand the association to over 81,000 members and 210 youth groups. This clearly shows that commitment to garden and landscape maintenance is very popular, especially in the rural area of the Upper Palatinate.

The website of the Upper Palatinate District Association offers comprehensive information about the important concerns of the association, which acts as a link between the local associations and the state association. The current focus of work is on youth work, with the aim of getting the younger generation excited about nature and promoting exchange between generations.

Promoting young talent in horticulture

The promotion of young talent in the local associations is the focus of numerous campaigns. These range from planting and craft activities to painting competitions and exhibitions. The aim is to anchor knowledge and enthusiasm for gardening and landscape maintenance. The Youth work is organized by the youth representatives, who plan annual seminars and provide resources to strengthen networking among young people.

The campaigns not only promote creativity and awareness of nature, but also offer experienced members new perspectives on traditional gardening. The commitment of the volunteer members in the local associations is crucial in organizing these diverse activities and festivals and thus strengthening community coexistence.

The passion for garden culture and the active participation in rural life are deeply rooted in the Upper Palatinate. This is reflected not only in the large number of activities carried out, but also in the support of appreciation for our gardens and intact nature. With the founding of the “Youth of the Bavarian Horticultural Clubs” in September 2023, an important step will be taken to strengthen youth representation and their issues in the horticultural clubs.
