Tractor on fire: 84-year-old saves himself in time!

Yesterday evening, August 26, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred on state road 2237 near Breitenfurt: a tractor burned out completely. The 84-year-old driver noticed heavy smoke in the engine compartment while driving and reacted quickly before the accident got worse. Shortly afterwards, the vehicle and trailer burst into flames, but the driver was able to get to safety in time and fortunately remained uninjured. The fire brigades from Berching, Pollanten and Erasbach were quickly on the scene and were able to put out the fire.

However, the heat and the leaking operating fluids caused serious damage to the road. Special cleaning by the road maintenance department was necessary and St 2237 was completely closed for around two hours, which led to significant traffic delays. Such incidents are not only dangerous, they also raise questions about the safety of agricultural vehicles.

Fires on Farms – A Common Risk?

In another message from the same day, this reported weekly paper that there was also a serious machine fire in Austria on Thursday. During repair work on a tractor, a spark jump while using brake cleaner came to a dramatic end: the tractor, which was parked in a farm building, suddenly began to burn. Thanks to the quick action of the farmer and his mechanic, the fire department was able to prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings. However, the sad result was a total loss of the tractor.

These incidents show how important preventive measures are. According to information from Agriculture Today There is no uniform survey of agricultural fires in Germany. This makes it difficult to assess and prevent such risks. Human error and electrical defects in particular are cited as common causes of fires. Given the insufficient data, it is a challenge to design preventive measures effectively.

Property damage and information for the police

Back in Neumarkt: In addition to the fire on St 2237, a black Mercedes was also damaged in the highway maintenance office's commuter parking lot on the same Sunday. Unidentified people scratched the left side of the vehicle, causing property damage worth around 3,500 euros. The Neumarkt police are accepting information about this case on 09181/4885-0.

The events of the past few days highlight the dangers that lurk both on the roads and on farms. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to pay attention to safety and identify potential risks early.
