VGF-Marktredwitz: Home defeat on St. Nicholas Eve - spectators disappointed!
On St. Nicholas Eve, December 7th, 2025, the VGF Marktredwitz volleyball players experienced another disappointing home game in the Mak Arena. The team suffered a clear 0-3 defeat against TSV Eibelstadt. This defeat was the fourth in a row in front of a home crowd and resulted in a negative record number of spectators. Despite some good phases during the game, the team was not able to consistently fulfill its potential and missed important points.
Player-coach Jan Liebscher cited recurring problems, such as a lack of consistency and penetration, as the main reasons for the defeat. “If you make mistakes in good phases, it drags the entire team down,” explained Liebscher. The VGF is considered rather inexperienced and reacts sensitively to small imponderables, which became clearly noticeable during the course of the game.
Preliminary round with light and shadow
After the preliminary round in the 3rd League East was completed, the VGF can still look forward to a solid second place. - Ein spannendes Derby gegen Oelsnitz ist ebenfalls Teil des Programms und zieht immer zahlreiche Zuschauer an die Mak-Arena, trotz des zuletzt gesunkenen Interesses.
Volleyball on the rise
The situation at VGF Marktredwitz reflects what can also be observed in German volleyball as a whole. The popularity of the sport is increasing, both in leisure and competitive sports. The VGF can look back on four home games won and thus leads the home table. “It’s time for us to impress again in the coming games,” explains Jan Liebscher. The next challenges are already just around the corner: On Saturday the VGF welcomes the VC DJK Munich East.
It remains to be seen whether the VGF will manage to end the negative series. One thing is certain: the commitment of the players and the commitment of the entire team will be crucial when the playoffs are around the corner and the dreams of the second division are within reach.
