Training market in Middle Franconia: Stability meets major challenges!
The training landscape in Middle Franconia appears to be stable in the current situation, but not without challenges. This became clear at the online press conference of the Nuremberg Employment Agency in collaboration with the IHK and HWK for Middle Franconia, which took place today. While the various aspects of the training market were discussed between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., a mixture of positive developments and pressing problems emerged. IHK Nuremberg reports that 7,146 new training contracts in IHK professions were completed for the year 2024/25 - a slight decrease compared to the previous year.
But it's not just the numbers that are important, the representatives' reports also speak volumes about the situation. Stefan Kastner from the IHK emphasizes the stability of the new training contracts, which were maintained despite the lack of a high school graduate. Things are looking somewhat more positive in the skilled trades: the HWK recorded 3,473 new apprenticeships, which indicates a growing interest in skilled trades. Matthias Braun from the HWK notes that the craft is still attractive to young people and that girls in particular are increasingly seeking access.
The need for advice and support
A central point of the conference was the increased need for advice that the Nuremberg Employment Agency has identified. Peter Preißinger from the agency emphasizes that young people without a training place need support - be it through career advice or through job centers. The need to support young people on their way into the professional world is becoming increasingly important. The aim is to create a seamless connection between school and professional life.
As a survey shows, companies and educational institutions have a responsibility to intensify their cooperation offers. Because training remains the key to securing skilled workers. It's not just the companies themselves that are providing impetus, but also politics, which is paving the way for modernized and future-oriented training with the skilled worker strategy presented in October 2022. BMAS states that training and further education must be continuously adapted to the requirements of the modern working world.
A look into the future
A key aspect of this strategy is the measures to modernize training, which focus on digital transformation and sustainability. Training regulations are regularly reviewed to ensure that the job profiles remain contemporary and attractive. The BMAS and other institutions are working to break down barriers in health, nursing and education professions in order to create a training guarantee.
In summary, it can be said that the training market in Middle Franconia is stable, but the challenges remain. The coming months will be crucial in order to successfully integrate young talent into the professional world and to sustainably secure skilled workers.
