Darmstadt thanks to Corredor with a last-minute win in Nuremberg!

On August 11, 2025 there was an exciting duel in the 2nd Bundesliga between SV Darmstadt 98 and 1. FC Nürnberg. After a hard-fought game, a last-minute goal from Killian Corredor in the 90th + 4th minute secured a 1-0 win for Darmstadt and thus their first away win since November 2024. "An incredibly bitter day for us," said Nuremberg coach Miroslav Klose after the game, "we didn't reward the performance."

The encounter at the Valznerweiher started quite slowly. The hosts from Nuremberg had been waiting for a home win for 145 days, but found it difficult to convince in the game. Darmstadt, on the other hand, came into the game with a lot of momentum and put the Nuremberg defense under pressure right from the start. A few chances to score were created on both sides, but there were no tangible successes in the first half and we went into the locker room with a goalless draw.

The second half and the decisive goal

At the start of the second half, Darmstadt remained unchanged, while Klose wanted to bring a breath of fresh air to the offensive with the substitution of Semir Telalović for Artem Stepanov. Ultimately, this change did not have the desired effect either. While Nuremberg created more and more chances, Darmstadt's goalkeeper Jan Reichert saved a few good opportunities, including a shot from Fraser Hornby.

The game picked up speed shortly before the end. The decision came in stoppage time: Corredor took advantage of a carelessness in the Nuremberg defense, capitalized on a header from Hornby and scored the decisive goal. This goal, which came with a probability of only 44.94%, not only gave Darmstadt the victory, but also the temporary lead in the 2nd Bundesliga. “We have made great progress, that makes us proud,” beamed Darmstadt coach Florian Kohfeldt after the final whistle.

A look ahead to the next games

After this defeat, Nuremberg remains pointless and winless and now has the next challenge ahead of them in the DFB Cup against FV Illertissen on August 16th. Darmstadt, on the other hand, will also face Lübeck in the cup and can hope for the league again on August 24th against Hertha BSC. Fans of both teams will be excited to see how the situation develops - Nuremberg is facing an important turnaround, while Darmstadt is on a wave of success.
