FCM triumphs 3-0 against Nuremberg – first win after a dry spell!

An exciting duel in the 2nd Bundesliga took place this Saturday on November 29, 2025 in the Avnet Arena. 1. FC Magdeburg received 1. FC Nürnberg. What a turn of events after a period full of difficulties! The FCM won 3-0 and caused cheers among the home fans.

The game began with an early but dangerous chance for the guests from Nuremberg when Finn Ole Becker was denied by Magdeburg goalkeeper Dominik Reimann in the 29th minute. There were several opportunities for FCM in the first half, but the ball just didn't want to go into the net. A shocking element was the 12-minute break at half-time, which was caused by pyrotechnics, followed by a 30-minute silence by the Magdeburg fan groups in protest against planned tightening of security.

The second 45 minutes

The second half brought the decisive goals. In the 73rd minute, Mateusz Zukowski crowned his performance and scored 1-0 after a free kick from Baris Atik. This was the first step towards a decisive victory. Just a few minutes later, in the 76th minute, Rafael Lubach from Nuremberg saw a yellow-red card, which made the situation even more difficult for Nuremberg.

Zukowski didn't have enough and made the final score 2-0 with his second goal in the 90th + 5th minute after he used Nollenberger's pass. Maximilian Breunig then added in the 90th + 10th minute, but his goal was disallowed due to an offside position. This made the 3-0 win for Magdeburg perfect, which now also meant that they are absolutely level on points with Dynamo Dresden, which makes the fight to stay in the league even more exciting.

Mood and viewership

A total of 26,200 spectators watched the game. This is a remarkable number that shows that football in Magdeburg is still very popular, despite the turbulent last few weeks. The course of the game was also accompanied by a striking emotion, especially after the long interruption. The Magdeburg fan groups had been looking forward to this important moment, but the protests against possible measures showed that not everything is going smoothly in the stadium area.

Because of this victory, Magdeburg can now look forward to the next games with optimism. The DFB Cup game against RB Leipzig is scheduled for Tuesday, which is certainly a big challenge. Nuremberg also has to make a new attempt - the next game is against Greuther Fürth - the so-called Franconian derby, which has high expectations for both teams.
