Hertha triumphs against FC Nürnberg – drama on the pitch!
In an exciting duel between FC Nürnberg and Hertha BSC on September 28, 2025, the Berlin team prevailed with a 3-0 win and thus scored significant points in the battle for the table places. Hertha was well organized and strong offensively from the start.
FC Nürnberg played in a 4-3-3 system and had the following players in the starting eleven: Reichert, Drexler, Gruber, Lochoshvili, Yilmaz, Markhiyev, Becker, Diop, Justvan, Lubach and Zoma. Drexler stepped in for the injured Koudossou at short notice, but his teammates also suffered some injuries. Markhiyev had to leave the field injured in the 37th minute and Stepanov came on for him. After a strong first half, in which Hertha was already leading 2-0 at the break, there were further substitutions on the FCN side in the 71st minute: Grimaldi and Janisch replaced Diop and Lochoshvili. Grzywacz celebrated his professional debut for Nuremberg in the final minutes when he came on as a substitute for Becker.
Dominance of the capital city residents
Hertha BSC started the game brilliantly: In the 2nd minute, Winkler headed in to make it 1-0, and just a short time later Grönning had the opportunity to extend the lead, but missed the goal. While FCN couldn't really penetrate offensively, Hertha set further accents with the second goal from Cuisance in the 42nd minute. Thorsteinsson missed a great chance in the last second of the first half.
After the break, FCN pushed for a connection, but another dangerous situation in the 60th minute was defused by Ernst, the Hertha keeper. In the 85th minute, Hertha's third goal came from Kownacki, who scored from 20 meters.
Personnel challenges at Hertha BSC
The injury problem remains a hot topic at Hertha BSC. The club currently has several players in rehab, including a 20-year-old who has been out since July 8th with an ankle injury and is expected to be unable to play until the end of November. Several other players, including a 30-year-old with a calf injury and a 32-year-old with a torn calf muscle, remain out of action. As comprehensive injury statistics show, the frequency and type of injuries in the top football leagues across Europe are a recurring problem. The data shows that injured players played in large numbers in the major leagues last season and became a problem for many teams, and the topic remains relevant this season too.
Nevertheless, the team's performance against FCN shows that Hertha is on the right track, even if injuries pose a constant challenge. With 56% ball possession and a solid defensive performance, the team was able to prove that they are strong despite personnel shortages. In the coming weeks it will be important to reduce the injury list and keep the team's confidence high, especially since there is no room for lapses in concentration in the league.
For Hertha BSC fans it’s time to take a deep breath and hope for a continued successful season!
