Hollywood has currently landed in Nuremberg! Filming is underway in Middle Franconia for the spectacular film “The Uprising”, previously known as “The Rage”. The medieval epic is set in the 14th century and deals with the English Peasants' Revolt of 1381. It is directed by none other than Paul Greengrass, known for his work on films such as "Captain Phillips" and "Jason Bourne". Lead actor Andrew Garfield is supported by Thomasin McKenzie, Tom Hollander and Stephen Dillane. The film crew is now moving to the old town of Nuremberg, where filming will continue from November 19th or 20th. Filming poses challenges for the residents
The situation for residents and drivers is made more difficult by the no-parking zones that have been set up. Karl-Heinz Enderle, chairman of the Altstadtfreunde e.V. in Nuremberg, confirmed that the filming also required the use of historical backdrops in the old town. The entire production takes place exclusively in Upper Bavaria and Franconia, while studio scenes are filmed in Munich.
Massive resources are required to realize this complex project. Around 5,000 extras were hired to portray roles such as court folk, nuns, monks and farmers. However, the exact days of filming and the production schedule remain under wraps.
Bavaria's attraction for international productions
Interestingly, it turns out that Bavaria is increasingly popular as a location for international film productions.
