New school campus in Werderau opens: education for over 1,000 students!

On November 10, 2025, the second construction phase of the Werderau school campus was ceremoniously inaugurated. The new educational facility, located on Maiacher Straße, offers space for over 1,000 students and serves as a pioneering school project in the region. The aim of the project is not only to promote education, but also to focus on sustainability and public use, such as nuernberg.de reported.

The campus includes several elements: a three-class elementary school for around 300 children, an after-school care center with 150 places and a middle school that can accommodate up to 800 students. There are also two modern sports halls and spacious outdoor sports facilities available. These new sports facilities, which have been in operation since this school year, include a triple sports hall with stands and a single hall, which can also be used for school events and can accommodate up to 1,200 guests.

Focus on sustainability

The project places particular emphasis on environmental and climate protection. This includes green facades, the use of native plants and the creation of habitats for insects and small animals. Soundproofing measures such as high walls to dampen street noise were also implemented. The entire construction project, which was realized in a “public-private partnership” with the Goldbeck company, cost around 74 million euros, of which 33 million euros were funded by the Free State of Bavaria and 5.25 million euros by the KfW.

The open spaces on campus are open to children, young people and families in the area outside of school hours. They can use the facilities from 4 p.m. during school hours and on Saturdays and holidays between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. in summer and until 6 p.m. in winter.

A new approach to onboarding

Innovative approaches are used in the area of vocational training and recruitment. During the onboarding process, numerous steps are offered to help new employees get started. This includes filling out personal information and signing important documents. Access to a dedicated onboarding area is enabled by default for all new employees.

To design the onboarding process, companies have the option to assign specific tasks, which are then displayed in an administration. These tasks are supported by reminders so that nothing gets lost. After completing onboarding, employees can access their contract terms and also download or upload documents.

A holistic approach to education, sport and professional integration is pursued here, which shows that the Cologne region is not only investing in infrastructure, but above all in the future of the next generation. The inauguration of the Werderau school campus represents a positive step towards the sustainable development of our schools.
