SV Elversberg starts the second half of the season with a thrilling 1-0 win!

The winter break in the 2nd Bundesliga is finally over! On Saturday, January 17th, at 1 p.m., SV Elversberg and 1. FC Nürnberg will meet in the Max Morlock Stadium. After almost four weeks of preparation, Elversberger's first competitive game is on the agenda in 2026. Coach Vincent Wagner, who prepared intensively for this restart with his team, is optimistic. “The preparation was good, the training camp brought a lot,” he says. But the opponent has stabilized in the current season and is currently in a solid 8th place in the table.

After initial difficulties, which accompanied the team from Nuremberg, especially until the middle of the season, the Nuremberg team have caught themselves. However, the last few weeks have been anything but easy. In contrast, SV Elversberg wants to get its first points away after promotion in 2023. “It will be a close game, we have to adapt to the individual class of the opponent,” warns Wagner.

An exciting duel awaits

The clash is seen not only as a tough test for the crucial phase of the season, but also as an important opportunity for Elversberg to prove itself against a long-standing rival. However, the exact line-up of the team remains unclear due to illness of some players. Wagner has to act strategically here, just like last year when squad problems presented the team with challenges.

A memorable start

The game starts with a bang: Elversberg actually manages to defeat Nuremberg! With a decisive header goal in the 90th minute, SVE secured a 1-0 win. Rohr is the hero of the day when he nods into the bottom right corner in stoppage time. Wagner is celebrating a successful debut as coach at Elversberg, while 1. FC Nürnberg has to accept another opening defeat - the fourth in a row.

The first minutes of the game are characterized by a certain nervousness on both sides, but Elversberg shows more possession of the ball, but cannot really penetrate the opponent's danger zone. Nuremberg, on the other hand, creates more of a goal threat with its quick combinations. In the last minute, Nuremberg forced their way into the action, but were consistently stopped by the Elversberg defense.

This game could point the way for both teams, because while Elversberg has the first three points, Nuremberg has to reorient itself after this bitter defeat. We can only hope that the Elversberg team can carry the momentum from this game with them for the coming games.
