Animal shelter Feucht calls for help: food for kittens is urgently needed!

In the Nuremberg region, the Feucht animal shelter is sounding the alarm. In view of a dramatic increase in newborn kittens, the facility is asking for urgent support. In the last few weeks, eight small kittens have been found in a box in a container. These tiny roommates, who weigh barely 100 grams and were severely hypothermic, require special attention and care. Four animal keepers are available around the clock to look after the cute rascals, but caring for these animals requires special food, which is currently in short supply. Currently, among others, Hipp organic chicken and Royal Canin Rearing milk is urgently needed.

The challenge facing the animal shelter is not an isolated case. The German Animal Welfare Association predicts a “cat glut” for the coming spring and summer months, which will put even greater strain on the already overcrowded animal shelters. Uncastrated outdoor cats and street cats are largely responsible for this uncontrolled reproduction. Some of the animal shelters are already overcrowded, which is why many have imposed admission stops.

Critical condition of the kittens

Unfortunately, the kittens often come to the animal shelter in critical health conditions. Orphaned animals require intensive care, which ties up additional resources. The Animal Welfare Association points out that many of the animals that live on the streets die without human care. “The situation is a real test for our animal protection associations and animal shelters,” explains Thomas Schröder, President of the German Animal Protection Association. He also sharply criticizes the federal government for ignoring the cat misery.

A sustainable solution could lie in the introduction of a nationwide castration requirement for outdoor cats. Again German Animal Welfare Association As explained, castration is a simple and routine procedure that usually occurs without complications. This could curb the uncontrolled increase in the cat population and prevent many kittens from having to live on the streets in adverse conditions.
