This small municipality in the Oberallgäu, which is the second smallest municipality in Bavaria with around 350 inhabitants, can boast of being the wettest place in Germany in 2025. With 1,841.8 liters of precipitation per square meter, Balderschwang not only leads the national rankings, but has also set standards in recent years. In 2024, the place recorded around 2,612.6 liters per square meter, placing it in second place behind Baiersbrunn-Ruhestein in the northern Black Forest. Anyone who looks at the snowy ski area in Balderschwang will quickly notice why the place is also called “Bavarian Siberia”. Winter sports are very important here: with a mountain height of 1,500 meters and a valley height of 1,000 meters, guests have access to 36 kilometers of downhill slopes and 45 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails. Currently 7 of 13 lifts are open, while snow depths fluctuate between 50 and 70 centimeters.
