Mountain rescue rescue despite fog and cold: Important tips for hikers!
The past few days in the Allgäu were accompanied by a thick fog, while a clear, starry night unfolded above the clouds. These special weather conditions not only brought with them a breathtaking view, but also nighttime operations for the Oberallgäu mountain rescue service. On the Wildengundkopf, two unprepared hikers had to be rescued who had gotten lost in the snow-covered terrain Allgäuhit reports.
On October 30th, after the mountain rescue service was woken up by an alarm, they initially prepared for a terrestrial operation. But the rescue workers from the mountain rescue service were fortunately able to mobilize the RK2 helicopter from Reutte, which is suitable for night flights, to free the two injured hikers from their predicament. They were safely picked up with the rescue winch and flown to the Hindelang mountain rescue station. This shows how important it is to be well prepared for the alpine conditions.
Missions on the Nebelhorn
The mountain rescue service had to carry out another operation on November 1st at the Nebelhorn. A hiker fell down a staircase in the area of the company building while descending and injured himself. The rescue helicopter Christoph 17 flew to the scene and, after initial medical treatment, took the injured person to a clinic. Fortunately, the mountain rescue service did not report any ground-based operations or special situations during this time.
Given the early twilight and falling temperatures, the mountain rescue service emphasizes the need to plan tours carefully. “The right equipment is the be-all and end-all,” explain those responsible. Hiking boots, a headlamp, warm clothing, a hat and gloves are essential for safe activities in the mountains. The organization is in close contact with the 13 Allgäu mountain rescue stations and four additional ones to ensure a high level of safety in the mountains bergwacht-bayern.de highlights.
The mountain rescue service in the Allgäu
The Allgäu Region Mountain Rescue Service is based in Immenstadt and is not only responsible for rescue operations, but also for the training of mountain rescuers and the infrastructure. It conducts numerous courses for basic training and advanced training in order to keep the emergency services up to date with the latest technology and operational methods.
In addition, the mountain rescue service operates special operations groups such as the avalanche and rescue dog squad, the mountain crisis intervention service and cave rescue, all of which are trained for special operations. “In a region like the Allgäu, where impressive landscapes and challenging weather conditions combine, it is crucial to be well prepared,” says the mountain rescue service.
