Record at the Iller Clean-Up: 32 volunteers collect 90 kilos of garbage!
The VAO Iller Clean Up campaign took place for the sixth time on the last weekend in September and set a real record in terms of participation. 32 volunteers worked hand in hand to clear rubbish from the banks of the Iller between Fischen and Sonthofen. In just four hours, a remarkable amount of around 90 kilograms of waste was collected, which is a huge improvement compared to previous years: not long ago, up to 600 kilograms of waste could be counted. This positive development shows that awareness of environmental protection is increasing.
During their collection, the participants found mostly plastic films and glass bottles. Fortunately, the gravel banks appeared to be relatively clean, which suggests that barbecue parties this year have left behind significantly less residue. The collected waste was immediately handed over to the Kempten Waste Management Association (ZAK) for disposal. The event also marks the start of the “Garbage-Free Allgäu” challenge, which is promoting further support and voluntary help until October 12th.
Be active for nature
Citizens are warmly invited to take part in this initiative and collect waste in their neighborhood. The clean-up campaign is supported by well-known partners such as dm-Markt Immenstadt, DMG Mori Pfronten, as well as ZAK, BOSCH and the outdoor center MAP-erlebnis. It's a wonderful opportunity to fight together for a clean environment and do something good.
The first preparations are already underway for the upcoming VAO Iller Clean-Up event on Friday, September 27, 2024. This is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. and aims to clear the Iller and its gravel banks of summer waste. The event is organized by the Association of Allgäu Outdoor Companies (VAO) in collaboration with DMG Mori and dm-Markt Immenstadt. Volunteers are always welcome and are provided with wetsuits and safety equipment. Trained rafting guides are also available to accompany the participants.
Volunteering for a clean future
The results of the last events were impressive: between 500 and 1500 kilograms of waste were collected per campaign. Such operations are not only important for the environment, but also for the preservation of nature and the protection of endangered animal species. Volunteer work on waste disposal therefore represents a significant contribution to ecological education, as well as on volunteerworld.com is recommended. Because every small measure counts and helps to preserve nature and the habitat of many animals.
In summary, the successful clean-up campaign in Sonthofen shows that there are movements in the community that are campaigning for a better environment. So, don't hesitate: join in and contribute to a waste-free Allgäu!
