New adventure trail between Pforzen and Irsee: An adventure for children!
Something exciting is happening in Ostallgäu! The “UDO trail”, which has been in existence for three years and has a lot to offer nature lovers and hikers, is being expanded to include a new adventure trail between Pforzen and Irsee. This reports Allgäu hit. The innovative path is intended to be particularly adapted for children and school classes and is intended to convey knowledge through narrative and playful means.
Dr. Klaus Schamel, a committed member of the educational trail working group of the UDO support association in Pforzen, is playing a leading role in this project. A big supporter of this project is the Ostallgäu Rotary Group, which has already generated funds for the adventure trail through fundraising. The support association is in the fortunate position of coordinating the collaboration between the university, the community and Rotary in order to jointly advance the implementation.
Experience for young and old
The existing UDO trail is a pleasure with its 15 kilometers, but is often a challenge for parents with small children. The new adventure trail is divided into two sections: one from Pforzen and one from Irsee. Ten teaching stations on both sides are intended to provide interesting insights into the flora and fauna and explain how the landscape was created.
A highlight of the educational trail will be the depiction of animals and plants that lived in the region around twelve million years ago. The stations will be interactive and include modern elements such as touch screens; This means that digitalization 4.0 is perfectly integrated into the educational process. The aim is to create an extracurricular learning space that brings paleontology closer and allows it to be experienced.
The relevance of the hammer forge
An important aspect of the project is the Hammerschmiede site, which is considered the first great ape site in Bavaria and is one of the most important in the world. About 15,000 paleontological finds have been recovered here, including remains of giant salamanders, snapping turtles and even saber-toothed cats. These finds also provide information about the biodiversity of the region and the habitat at the time of Udo, when the landscape was characterized by extensive meadows and large grassy areas, as on the website of the UDO support association Pforzen is to be experienced.
The hammer forge also offers the opportunity to actively use modern paleontological methods, which could promote interest in research among future generations. These treasures of natural history are not only important for scientists, but also make the topic of paleontology accessible to the general public.
The further procedure
The project is currently in the concept phase. The approvals from the municipalities are still pending, but installation of the nature trail could begin as early as spring. The plan calls for the entire adventure trail to be completed in Pforzen by 2027. The exhibition that the support association organized in various cities in the Allgäu also helps to increase awareness of this valuable educational initiative.
This is for everyone who wants to delve deeper into the topic paleontological museum in Munich various guided tours and courses to gain exciting insights into the history of evolution. This means that young and old can go on a journey of discovery while at the same time learning the impressive stories about our earth and its inhabitants.
