B12 renovation starts: diversions and traffic jams expected until September!
From today, June 24, 2025, the Passau State Building Authority will begin the renovation of the B12 federal road between Prienbach and Ering. The construction work is expected to take around three months and is divided into a total of three longitudinal construction sections, each with two construction phases. The aim of the measures is to keep traffic pollution as low as possible. Traffic in the direction of Munich remains largely undisturbed, while the route in the opposite direction to Passau requires extensive diversions. Loud PNP Traffic is routed alternately through the construction site.
The following routes are recommended for the diversions:
- Von der Anschlussstelle Neuötting der A94 über die B588 nach Reischach und Mitterskirchen, dann weiter nach Eggenfelden und über die B388 nach Passau.
- Alternativ auch über die B20 nach Eggenfelden und dann die B388 nach Passau.
- Ab Simbach-Mitte über die St2112 nach Pfarrkirchen und anschließend über die B388 bis nach Passau.
Details about the construction phases
The first construction work includes a closure from the bridge over the Kirnbach to the Loher intersection, which begins on June 23rd at 6 p.m. for the direction of Passau. Starting tomorrow, June 24th, work will begin on the southern lane. There are a few rules to keep in mind: turning right from the PAN1 and the Loh municipal road to Munich is permitted, while turning left and crossing are prohibited. The second phase of construction is expected to begin from July 5, once the first phase is completed
Residents and commuters in Ering and the surrounding area could experience higher traffic volumes and possible traffic jams during construction work. In particular, the closure of the lane from Passau to Mühldorf between Sankt-Anna-Straße and Pildenau, as well as the mutual closure of the lane from Mühldorf to Passau from June 23rd to July 18th, 2025, will make the traffic situation even more difficult News reported.
Comprehensive background
The renovation is part of a larger plan that is anchored in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030. This plan includes numerous projects for the expansion and construction of roads, railways and waterways, which were developed based on an extensive assessment of their need to cope with future traffic. The details of these projects are in BVWP project information system available, which not only provides the project-specific dossiers, but also provides an overview of the planned measures and their effects.
It is advisable for citizens and commuters to find out about the current traffic situation and diversions on the websites mentioned in order to avoid inconveniences during the construction period. So stay alert! It might be worth it to have some patience.
