BMW driver ends up in the forest near Thyrnau after dodging a deer!
A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday evening, November 5, 2025, on the district road between Thyrnau and Büchlberg in the Passau district. At around 6:15 p.m., a 24-year-old BMW driver from the Passau district tried to avoid a deer and lost control of his vehicle. The car left the road and ended up in a young forest, where it tipped over on its side.
The accident was quickly recorded by firefighters from Donauwetzdorf, Gosting and Thyrnau. They diverted traffic over a wide area and ensured that the accident scene was well lit. A first aider used a chainsaw to free access to the vehicle so that the young driver, who was lucky and only suffered minor injuries, could be quickly taken to a hospital by the BRK (Bavarian Red Cross). A towing service was requested to recover the BMW.
Causes of accidents under the microscope
The fact that wild animals often cross the streets and can lead to dangerous situations was also shown in another case that occurred on the same evening in Saxony. There, a 22-year-old BMW driver who was traveling from Salga towards Malschwitz tried to avoid a deer. He lost control of his vehicle and collided head-on with a tree. In this case, the driver, a Polish national, was seriously injured and flown to a hospital by helicopter. The material damage to the vehicle amounts to around 15,000 euros.
Given such incidents, it is not surprising that traffic accident statistics in Germany are extensively analyzed. According to the results published on the website of the Federal Statistical Office, these statistics serve to obtain reliable and up-to-date data on the road safety situation. They provide important insights into the structure of accidents and the causes of accidents in order to support measures in legislation, traffic education and road construction.
In both cases it has become clear that reactions are instinctive and vehicle drivers often lose control in critical situations in order to protect wildlife. Not only do they highlight the risks posed to drivers on the road, but also the need to pay particular attention when driving in rural areas.
The accident statistics clearly show us the importance of road safety measures and the need to raise awareness among both drivers and pedestrians. Traffic monitoring, education and measures to reduce accident-prone situations must continue to be the focus in order to avoid such accidents.
The reporting of these incidents clearly demonstrates the importance of sensitive management of traffic and wildlife. It remains to be hoped that those affected will recover quickly and that lessons will be learned from the incidents.
