Massive traffic jam on the A93: Truck block handling causes chaos!

Today, June 16, 2025, another severe traffic jam is expected on the A93 between the Inntal triangle and the Kiefersfelden border crossing. The reason for this is the usual truck block handling that the Tyrolean authorities put into effect this morning at 5 a.m. on the Inntal motorway A12 near Kufstein. And as we know from such measures, the effects will not be long in coming.

How rosenheim24.de reported that at the beginning of block processing, only 300 trucks per hour were allowed to pass the checkpoint at Kufstein-Nord. However, as the morning progresses, the transmission number is significantly reduced. From 9:10 a.m. there are only 100 trucks per hour - a real game of patience for the drivers. Finally, the number of passages is increased again to 300 at 10 a.m., but the entire process progresses slowly until the planned closure at 12:30 p.m. The result: a backlog of up to 25 kilometers until just before the junction of the Inntal motorway triangle on the A93.

Recurring traffic jam problems

The Tyrolean state government has now established block handling as a permanent facility in order to defuse traffic problems during the holiday periods. In fact, trucks weighing over 7.5 tons are affected on the Inntal motorway, while lighter traffic can continue unhindered. On certain days, drivers on the A93 must therefore expect disruptions, such as adac.de and trans.info report.

A total of 36 days of block processing are planned for 2025 - slightly less than the previous year with 40 days. Truck drivers have to wait at the border on appointments, which often leads to long traffic jams that can even extend back to the A8 (Munich - Salzburg). In addition, short-term block handling days may be imposed due to construction sites, accidents or weather events.

Practical tips for travelers

The Bavarian state government has also banned trucks from passing through places along the A8 and A93 in order to curb local traffic problems. However, these driving bans only apply to truck transit traffic towards Austria and Brenner during block handling. Drivers, on the other hand, have the option of using alternative routes - an option that truck drivers generally do not have.

So if you're traveling on the A93 on one of these days, you might want to take some time and patience - otherwise the route to Austria could turn into a real adventure.
