On June 28th it's time again: lace up your shoes and head to the Roth district! This year, 35 teams with a total of 980 participants are expected for the 40th edition of the popular running event. District Administrator Ben Schwarz will give the official starting signal at 7 a.m., and the anticipation of an exciting day is already in the air donaukurier.de reported.
In total, the route runs through the entire Roth district over 28 stages. The focus is not on chasing records, but rather on the joy of running together. The event is open to all ages and participants who wear a 1984 to 2010 t-shirt to the awards ceremony will receive a free drink.
Competition and recognition
The event is not only a sporting competition, but also brings with it a lot of community spirit. In addition to the overall ranking, special trophies are awarded, including the awards for the “Best Village Team” – for places with a maximum of 2,000 inhabitants – and the “Best Mixed Team”, which must compete in at least 10 stages with women. The numerous teams ensure an exciting atmosphere during this unique event.
The last stage starts in Belmbrach at around 5.20 p.m., followed by the award ceremony from around 6 p.m. in the inner courtyard of the vocational school. The organization runs like clockwork – the police, fire departments, the Technical Relief Agency (THW) and the Red Cross ensure everything runs smoothly, while timekeepers and judges record the times.
A look into history
The rural circuit has a long tradition behind it. It was only in 2019 that the Leidl team from TSG Roth was able to win by 35 points over rivals LT TV Thalmässing nordbayern.de reported. The event has made a name for itself over the years, and a total of around 39,000 active runners have taken part since the first edition. Looking forward to this year, everyone is looking forward to even greater participation and an unforgettable day dedicated to sport.
The stages are available as GPS tracks on the website www.landkreis-roth.de, and there will also be a small specialty: an exclusive running shirt, designed by the company “Markelos” from Thalmässing, will be sold for 15 euros at each stage. It's just a shame that such events are often associated with major challenges, such as the unfortunate stage in 2019, where an inexperienced motorcyclist changed the markings.
