80 years of the CDU Naumburg: Celebrating an anniversary for democracy!
On November 10, 2025, the Naumburg CDU city association celebrated a special anniversary in the Haus des Gastes: 80 years of commitment to democracy. What began almost a century ago after the end of Nazi rule has developed over the years into a stable pillar of the political landscape in Naumburg. The city association was founded for the first time on this exact date in 1945, with the aim of creating a new democratic order and encouraging citizens to actively participate. The founding chairman Willi Jacobi and 21 other members started this important process.
During the celebration, Minister of Culture Armin Schwarz emphasized the timely importance of the upcoming local elections in March 2026. He emphasized how crucial a strong local democracy is for the well-being of citizens and added: “Naumburg is a pearl in the district association.” Martin Roth, the chairman of the city association, outlined the development of the CDU in Naumburg and highlighted influential personalities such as Rudolf Peter and Joachim Jacobi.
A successful tradition
For over six decades, the CDU provided the mayors in Naumburg and thus ensured stable political conditions. The party held the reins until 1989, when a non-party mayor was elected. But the elections always went well for the CDU in Naumburg. This enabled it to achieve truly above-average results in elections, reflecting the development that the founding fathers had once striven for.
The CDU's political influence remained unbroken over the years until Stefan Hable took over the mayor's office in 2007. In September 2025 he handed over the baton to Sebastian Lesch. Roth expressed his desire to continue to play a significant role in local politics in the future. “We don’t just want to have a say, we also want to shape things,” he said, summing up the party’s ambitions.
Political challenges and visions for the future
However, the CDU sees itself not only as a bearer of history, but also as having a responsibility to actively respond to the current challenges of the economic situation. Germany has to overcome a number of difficulties, such as high energy prices and an acute shortage of skilled workers, as the Christian Democratic Union emphasizes. In their election program they outline future perspectives for modernizing labor law as well as measures to relieve tax and social security contributions.
The proposals are ambitious: a reduction in corporate taxation to a maximum of 25%, reduction in bureaucracy and promotion of agriculture through innovative technologies. Compliance with climate goals should also be achieved through a market economy by strengthening competitiveness through digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence.
We can look forward to the coming months: The Naumburg CDU carries 80 years of committed democracy in its, as they put it, “smart hands” and has great visions for the future, which should be realized with strong citizen participation.
