Harvest festival in Roth: Yellow ribbons show where snacking is allowed!

A lot is happening in picturesque Roth right now: Horst Hirschl and his dedicated team will be out in the streets until the end of August, not only to decorate the city area with colorful “yellow ribbons”, but also to combat food waste to some extent. The “Yellow Ribbon” campaign was launched again in 2025, initiated by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and is very popular. Danube Courier reports that the city's fruit trees are marked with this to show that proper harvesting is allowed here.

The harvest season has already begun and is drawing citizens to the trees in droves. The city signals with yellow markings: “You can pick and snack here.” The ribbons are made from environmentally friendly pulp that is either removed after harvest or decays naturally. All citizens are advised to only take household quantities and not to empty the trees. Anyone who particularly enjoys the sweet fruits can even take part in the campaign themselves and attach their own yellow ribbons to their fruit trees.

Declare war on food waste

The goal of this initiative is clear: to specifically counteract food waste and promote communal enjoyment. This was first introduced in the Esslingen district in 2020 and has proven to be consistently successful to date. The overview of the participating trees can be viewed on the city's homepage: www.stadt-roth.de/gelbesband. Everyone is invited to join in and take an active part in this colorful community event.

In the midst of these lively activities, enjoyment doesn't fall by the wayside. If you are looking for a good meal after a fruity harvest trip, you should take a look at the La Carreta restaurant. Breakfast lovers are warmly welcomed there every day from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by delicious lunch dishes until 9:30 p.m., and on weekends even until 10:00 p.m. Perfect for treating yourself to a well-deserved refreshment after a productive day of picking.

Harvest and enjoy together

The idea of harvesting fruit together not only promotes the neighborhood, but also brings together people who are committed to sustainability. The yellow ribbons are a sign of invitation: “Join us and let’s do something for the environment together!” Roth shows how simple ideas can have a big impact. Because only together can we overcome the challenge of food waste, and without any fanfare.

Those interested can find information about the exact locations of the fruit trees that are marked and invite harvest on the city's homepage. And as I said: Don't skip picking, do good business with nature! Because the healthy fruits are just waiting to be harvested and enjoyed.
