Duisburg's record run: sixth victory – promotion in sight!

MSV Duisburg continued its impressive winning streak in the third division and made history. On Tuesday evening the team celebrated a clear 3-0 win against the up-and-coming players from Schweinfurt. With this success, MSV proudly announced a new record: six wins from six games, which is a reason for euphoria for the club's fans. Memories of relegation to the fourth division in April 2024, when supporters greeted the players with the banner “You are a disgrace for Duisburg!” showed their dissatisfaction are now far away.

In the last few weeks the team has shown that the wounds of relegation have healed. Coach Dietmar Hirsch, who contributed significantly to this upswing, led the team straight to the top of the table. The slogan “Wahnsinn von der Wedau” was presented on banners several times by enthusiastic fans. Player Johannes Geis from Schweinfurt is also convinced that with this form Duisburg will probably be promoted to the 2nd league, where they were last represented in the 2018/19 season under coach Torsten Lieberknecht.

The record and the competition

With this series, the Duisburg team overtook the record of five wins previously set by TSV 1860 Munich. Despite this record hunt, coach Hirsch remains calm and emphasizes: “The table is crucial,” while he is aware of the high competition in the third division. The new newcomers like Schweinfurt and Havelse should not be underestimated. In addition, MSV's personnel situation has become tense in the last few games: several regular players, including Patrick Sussek, who only has a 50/50 chance, are injured. Nevertheless, the bench is strong: the substitutes have already recorded eleven goals - a record in the league.

MSV knows the importance of the third division, which has played a crucial role in German football since its introduction in the 2008/2009 season. In addition to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, the third division offers the opportunity to qualify for the DFB Cup. Historically, various teams have achieved the title of “Champions of the 3rd League”, with Dynamo Dresden being one of the most successful clubs in this category. According to the all-time table, SV Wehen Wiesbaden is considered the most successful team.

The way up

The current season shows that Duisburg is working with a good hand and the signs point to promotion. The special team chemistry seems to be right, and players like captain Alexander Hahn, Patrick Sussek, Tobias Fleckstein (trained at Schalke), Connor Noß (Gladbach) and Jan-Simon Symalla (Fortuna Düsseldorf) contribute significantly to the success. Fleckstein emphasizes fun and teamwork, while coach Hirsch praises the commitment and hard work of his players as the key to success. It is clear that everyone in the team is doing their best to realize the return to the second division.

The next game is already around the corner and MSV Duisburg fans can be excited to see whether their team can extend their record further. Hopes for a successful season are high and the football world is watching to see whether Duisburg can make their dream of promotion come true.
