FC Schweinfurt and DJK Würzburg: revolution in girls' football!
On July 12, 2025, an exciting collaboration between the FC Schweinfurt 1905 and the DJK Würzburg, which is intended to give girls' football a strong boost in the region. The aim of the partnership is to sustainably support young players and create social development opportunities, regardless of the individual athlete's level of performance. The U17 area in particular should be strengthened, with the focus being on the top divisions. For the younger age groups, however, the focus is on the fun of the game and the communal experience.
With only 8% of girls playing ball sports in Germany, the need for action is clear: netball is far more popular than football in the region. The cooperation is based on openness and mutual support and aims to change this inequality. The first joint event took place last weekend in Würzburg and included screening training for both clubs, a joint training camp for the U13 and U14 teams and the acceptance of the DFB football badge.
Successful kick-off event
Around 50 young players took part in the DFB badge and were able to enjoy the presence of third division players such as Joshua Endres, Nick Doctorczyk and Luca Trsilic at the event. They created great enthusiasm by answering the girls' questions and giving insights into their professional careers. A mini-tournament and injury prevention workshops rounded off the impressive program.
The aim of the event was not only to introduce the girls to the sport of football, but also to build a personal network between the girls from both cities. The future events in particular promise exciting content: specific training sessions, coach internships and special support measures for talented players are imminent. Workshops are also offered that go beyond football training and are intended to promote social and personal skills.
The path to success
Cooperation is not only a mandatory exercise, but also a matter of the heart. As inside.fifa.com emphasizes, women's football has developed enormously in recent years, but challenges remain to be overcome. In Germany, FIFA is also pushing to promote women's football, not least to increase the number of girls and women who actively play football to 60 million by 2026.
The exemplary initiative by FC Schweinfurt and DJK Würzburg contributes to laying an important building block for the promotion of girls' football. In the future, we would also like to address other clubs and call for cooperation in order to further strengthen girls' football in the region. Because football is supposed to bring glamor and joy, and where could this be achieved better than in a team?
