Fürth's footballers are starting hot preparations - a new goal duo at work!

The second division soccer team SpVgg Greuther Fürth started its preparation for the season on June 25, 2025 and held its first training session under head coach Thomas Kleine. Around 150 fans were there and cheered on the players. A total of 22 field players and four goalkeepers were on the pitch ready to face the challenges of the new season. While Lukas Reich was missing due to special leave after the U19 European Championship, the injured players Sacha Bansé and Aaron Keller had to be patient.

In an exciting move, two young talents from the U23 team, Marlon Fries and Adem Imeri, are allowed to train with the professionals. This shows that the club has a good knack for integrating young players into the first team. The aim of the exercises is to create the basis for a successful season by promoting passionate action, tactical variability and rapid growth as a team.

Intensive training week

Greuther Fürth plans to work with double units in the coming days to get the players' fitness up to speed. In order to optimally prepare for the challenges ahead, the summer break is accompanied by a short but intensive training period. Coaches must ensure that athletes are returning from different fitness levels and adjust training accordingly to continually monitor performance. Sport-specific test procedures such as the Cooper test can be used for fitness diagnosis, which also includes pulse measurements before, after and during the run in order to better assess the fitness level of the players.

The first weeks of preparation are aimed at training athletics, technique and tactics. In the first four weeks, three training sessions per week are planned, with the workload gradually being adapted to the season conditions towards the end of the preparation. There are various focal points on the program:

  • Woche 1: Grundlagen der Ausdauer
  • Woche 2: Fußballspezifische Ausdauer mit Technikausbildung
  • Woche 3: Schnelligkeit und Koordination
  • Woche 4: Spielverlagerung und Überzahlspiel
  • Woche 5: Verteidigungsverhalten
  • Woche 6: Mannschaftsverbund und Pressing

The first test match is coming up

Those responsible in the club are just as committed as the players. The first test match against 1. FC Herzogenaurach is scheduled for next Saturday. This offers the opportunity to test previous training results and prepare the team for the challenges ahead.

An exciting phase is ahead, not only for Fürth, but also in other leagues, such as the Regionalliga West. For example, the BVB U23 under their new coach Mike Tullberg will also start their season preparation in Dortmund at the end of June and will follow a similar training plan, including performance diagnostics and test matches.

In summary, it can be said: Preparation is crucial and everyone involved is required to achieve the goals for the new season. The first test game will show us how well the plans are working and where further fine-tuning may be needed.
