Kiosk operator in Herrsching is fighting for a future after the lease ends!

In Herrsching am Ammersee there is currently exciting news about Jochen Nibbe's popular boathouse and kiosk. The trained restaurateur, who has been running his kiosk with a mini golf course on the lake promenade for ten years, faces an uncertain future. As the Mercury reported, the contract for its kiosk will not be renewed in June 2026, which poses some challenges for Nibbe.

Nibbe, whose brother Andreas once built the boathouse in collaboration with the community, plans to be open every nice day until last winter. He even has a large fan base, including many locals who appreciate his daily updates via the WhatsApp group. But that's not all: in the last ten years, Nibbe has also had to contend with repeated break-ins - his kiosk was broken into a total of 17 times. Most recently, a thief stole nothing more than an opened bottle of Campari.

The challenge of renovation

The community determined early on that the boathouse would revert to them when the contract expired. Even though Nibbe has applied for a five-year extension, he sees financial difficulties facing the municipality, which is also expected to plan renovations for the kiosk and the toilets. These renovation-related costs will not be insignificant.

Another topic that goes unnoticed is noise pollution, for which Nibbe has already been reported once. An Irish folk band performing in the kiosk was the reason for the incident, but Nibbe never let the fun of making music stop him.

A friend of the community

Jochen Nibbe is not only an entrepreneur, but also an active member of the pan-European party Volt, where he is involved in the district council. His kiosk is a popular meeting place for the community and is very popular.

Although there is a risk that he could lose his lease on the boathouse, Nibbe remains optimistic. The range of leisure activities in Herrsching is not only maintained through its offerings, but could also be enhanced, which is of great interest to the community. After all, the viewpoint over Lake Ammersee is a popular destination that attracts with an exciting range of restaurants - something that is also appreciated beyond the region.
