Fraudsters arrested in Bogen: Shock call passion revealed!

On Friday, July 11, 2025, a 52-year-old woman from Bogen in the Straubing-Bogen district received a shock call that turned out to be a criminal activity. The caller, who identified himself as a prosecutor, immediately created a lot of pressure by claiming that her daughter had caused an accident that required a deposit of 42,000 euros. The woman, however, had enough insight to recognize the attempted fraud and immediately informed the police.

The shock call, like that Federal Criminal Police Office warns, is an increasingly common scam. The perpetrators pretend to be relatives in an emergency and put their victims under massive pressure to get money or valuables. Scammers often report traffic accidents or criminal incidents that require immediate financial help. The callers often act as a team, taking turns to manipulate the emotions of their victims.

Arrest of the suspected perpetrator

During their investigation, the police discovered a suspicious man in a taxi driving on the A92 motorway towards Munich around 5:50 p.m. At 6:20 p.m. the taxi was checked at the Mettenbacher Moos parking lot. The 25-year-old Serb was arrested and it emerged that he was suspected of being involved in this shock call and acting as a cash collector. The Regensburg public prosecutor's office and the Lower Bavaria Criminal Police Inspectorate have already initiated investigations.

Initial results indicate that the arrested man is part of a commercial gang and may have been involved in other fraud cases. An arrest warrant for commercial and gang fraud was issued and the suspect is now in a correctional facility.

This is how you protect yourself from shock calls

Experts of the police have some tried and tested advice on how to protect yourself from these scammers: In the event of a suspicious call, you should under no circumstances comply with the caller's demands or allow yourself to be put under pressure. Instead, it is advisable to hang up and contact the local police department. Important personal and financial information should never be disclosed over the telephone.

Those affected can also contact victim advice centers such as the “WEISSER RING”, which offer additional support. Older people in particular are often the target of such fraud attempts. A good tip: Call relatives on known numbers to clarify the situation.

With knowledge of these tricks and a healthy dose of skepticism, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from the dangers of such calls. Be vigilant and don't be easily disturbed!
