The Gäubodenvolksfest opened in Straubing on August 9, 2025, and the atmosphere of anticipation can be felt everywhere. With around 1.3 million visitors expected, it is the second largest folk festival in Bavaria and attracts numerous visitors every year. The folk festival takes place on an impressive area of around 100,000 square meters, with around 27,500 seats in seven large festival tents. Eastern Bavarian Show as a supplement
The Ostbayernschau, which is considered the largest consumer exhibition in the Eastern Bavarian region, takes place parallel to the Gäubodenfest. This is described as a large shopping center and offers a platform for around 600 exhibitors on 60,000 square meters and 17,000 square meters of hall space. Visitors can find everything from cashmere scarves to high-end tractors here. Open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., over 350,000 visitors are expected to enter, and best of all, entry is free!
In order to promote the connection between producers and consumers, numerous information stands and special shows will also be offered at the Ostbayernschau. This initiative not only strengthens regional companies, but also makes a valuable contribution to the region's economic development.
A look into history
The Gäubodenvolksfest has a long history that dates back to 1812, when it was founded as an agricultural festival. King Maximilian I Joseph gave permission to hold the festival at the time.
