Premiere of the Legend of the Blessed Engelmar” delights Sankt Englmar!
Last weekend a very special event took place in Sankt Englmar: the premiere of the “Legend of the Blessed Engelmar” on the occasion of the town's 925th anniversary. This new production impressed the approximately 200 spectators with a harmonious overall concept, touching acting moments and an impressive natural backdrop, which was staged directly at the Waldbühne at the valley station of the Pfarrstuhl Arena. How regio-aktuell24 reports, director Christian Holmer presented a revised version of Alois Winter's original, in which a school class discovers Engelmar's story. This opening scene immediately created an emotional connection with today's generation.
The atmosphere on stage was unique. The design of the three game levels, a water point and the lighting design by Tobias Beinrucker and Stefan Walser supported the mood of the scenes magnificently. The acting performances were impressive. Lisa Piermeier as Lena, who is being persecuted for witchcraft, and Christian Holmer as witch commissioner Kaspar Berner fascinated the audience equally. Jan Tisowsky, who portrayed Engelmar as a pious hermit, showed calm strength, while Alexander Altmann impressively portrayed the development of his character from envious companion to murderer. The other roles, such as Lukas Penzkofer as the hunter and Veronika Mader as the messenger, also fit harmoniously into the ensemble.
A moving experience
The funeral procession after Lena's death in the first act was particularly moving, in which around 40 participants gathered together. The second act discussed Engelmar's work and his willingness to help, which made him the target of Meinrad's hatred. And when the performance ended with the emotional “Englmari Song”, newly written by Abbot Petrus-Adrian Lerchenmüller, the very personal connection to the story was clearly noticeable. Mayor Anton Piermeier thanked everyone involved, especially the relatives of the author Alois Winter as well as Michael Schroll and Regina and Rudi Troiber, for their contribution to this special conclusion.
The premiere marks the start of a series of further performances of the “Legend of the Blessed Engelmar” on the coming July weekends. Performances are planned for July 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th at 8 p.m. Tickets are available both at the box office and online. The organizers are opting for a more colorful program with many participants, including over 20 children, who are involved in the performance in order to keep the traditional Englmari customs alive. The city and mayor provide support with a dedicated team to ensure that everything runs smoothly, as is bayerischer-wald.de has experienced.
Sankt Englmar not only reflects a cultural highlight, but also the effort to turn local stories into an unforgettable experience with a lot of commitment and artistic quality. So if you are looking for an authentic cultural event, you should not miss this piece and become part of the centuries-old traditions that are very popular in this region.
