Transfer summer 2025: Ice hockey clubs are preparing for the future!

The transfer summer of 2025 has already picked up speed in German ice hockey. Both in the PENNY DEL as well as in the DEL2 and the upper leagues, the clubs are jumping into the action and planning their squads for the coming season. As Ice Hockey News reports, we can expect numerous player changes and contract extensions after the final rounds of the current 2024/25 season are completed. In addition, an initial overview of the squads of the eliminated teams from the PENNY DEL and DEL2 for 2025/26 is already provided.

What makes the situation in German ice hockey so exciting? First of all, there are a total of four leagues active in this country: the DEL, DEL2 and the upper leagues South and North. In these leagues, 52 professional teams fight for supremacy on the ice, while a total of around 3,600 active players, including around 1,300 professional players, bring the sport to life. This diversity ensures a lot of movement on the transfer market.

Squad planning and youth development

The clubs are required not only to sign experienced players, but also to integrate young talent into their teams. Since the 2020/21 season there have been new regulations to support young German ice hockey players: An official game sheet in the DEL and DEL2 consists of 21 places. Two are reserved for goalkeepers, while at least three places must be occupied for development contract players (born 2000 or younger). In addition, 15 places are earmarked for U23 players, while the quota players are considered above U23.

The clear aim of this regulation is to specifically promote talent and give them the chance to prove themselves in professional ice hockey. This has now proven itself, as many young players have made the leap into the professional leagues and contribute to the game's attractiveness.

Current transfers and rumors

At the moment, the closed doors of ice hockey clubs all over this country are open to new opportunities. The transfer market is currently still in full swing and exciting changes can be expected almost daily. As Eishockey Online increasingly notes, transfers are only published if they are confirmed by both clubs. So fans can look forward to a few surprises as teams plan their rosters.

In this exciting phase of ice hockey, it is particularly important to keep a close eye on developments. Planning for the 2025/26 season is already underway and many clubs are striving to position themselves optimally. We can therefore be excited to see which players find their way into the top German league and who might be the next ice hockey sensation.

Of course, we can only hope that the developments in the transfer summer will bring not only sporting explosiveness, but also a lot of fun for the spectators. The ice hockey transfer market remains a captivating topic, and every day there are new stories to be told that fuel fan interest.
