Volleyball talents for NawaRo Straubing: ability and ambition combined!

On August 17, 2025, the volleyball scene in Straubing will breathe a sigh of relief: The two 17-year-old talents Anna Liefke and Nora Melzl have joined NawaRo Straubing and will strengthen the Bayernliga team. These commitments are a promising step for the young players, who not only have talent in volleyball but also in their interactions with one another.

Anna Liefke, who plays as an outside attacker, has had an interesting journey. Born in Rostock and raised in Schwerin, she learned volleyball at Schweriner SC before she now wants to advance her career in Straubing. She plans to move into student accommodation from September 1st and start training to become a paralegal. In addition to volleyball, she enjoys crossword puzzles and bike rides. However, her dog remains in northern Germany - a small separation that she willingly accepts.

Local talent and their perspectives

Nora Melzl, the middle blocker from Dachau, already brings experience from the NawaRo talent team. She will now continue her school career at Ludwigsgymnasium and live in a shared apartment with three other teammates. She appreciates the family and professional atmosphere in Straubing and sees the opportunity for further development that is offered to her. In her free time, Melzl plays the guitar, practices martial arts and paints passionately.

Coach Roland Schwab has clear goals: He wants to build a strong Bayernliga team that unites young and old. The plan stipulates that the young talents are optimally supported and at the same time pursue the goal of returning to the regional league. The training is designed with a ratio of 50:50 between the first team and the Bayernliga squad, which is intended to ensure a broad training.

A look outside the box

While Straubing is developing new talent, there is also great international interest in youth volleyball. Discussions about the 2027 recruiting class have brought to light interesting players from various states. For example, sisters Nyla and Naomi Livings from Texas have received high endorsements and are likely to continue to be in the spotlight. The TAV 16 Black Paul has already received invitations to the NTDP, which is a great opportunity for those involved.

  • Nyla Livings (MB) – neigt zu Texas.
  • Naomi Livings (Opp/OH) – ebenfalls Tendenz zu Texas.
  • Brynn Stephens (S/RS) – möglicherweise Nebraska.
  • Kendel Omoruyi, Tessa Larkin, Peyton Kubik – weitere Talente aus anderen Clubs.

The enthusiasm for volleyball extends across many states, and with players like Gentry Barker and Reagan Wallraff hailing from Texas and Nebraska, there is plenty of talent that could take center stage in the coming years.

Overall, it is clear that NawaRo Straubing is taking an important step for the future of the club with Anna Liefke and Nora Melzl. The healthy balance between experience and young talent could take the team to new heights and delight spectators with thrilling games.
